Negative Balance Policy to be enforced effective Feb. 3, 2020

Thank you very much for your patience and understanding the past several months as we worked to recover from our network disruption.  For several months, we did not have computer access and cafeteria staff recorded purchases manually.  Our goal during this time was to continue to feed all students even though we had no way of knowing account balances.  Parents/guardians could not monitor purchases and/or balances online, and could not make online payments.  It was a difficult time for all and we are happy to report all systems are now up and running.

There are a number of large negative account balances still remaining.  We would be happy to work with you to help you understand the balance and arrange for a payment plan if necessary.  Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

Now that the issues have been resolved and a grace period has been extended, the Food Service Department will be enforcing the negative balance policy effective February 3, 2020.  This policy is if a student has a negative balance on their account, they may not purchase any a la carte items (snacks, drinks, individual food items) until the account is in good standing.  The student will be able to purchase a complete meal, but those purchases will be added to the existing negative balance and there is an expectation of eventual payment.

Here are a few friendly reminders from the Food Service Department:

  • Free and Reduced Meal Applications are available on the District Web site and online. You may apply for meal benefits anytime during the school year.   Paper applications are available in each school office or from the building Food Service Manager.
  • If a parent would like to place purchasing restrictions on their child’s account, such as limiting a la carte purchase, please send an e-mail to the building Food Service Manager or Jane Natali, Supervisor of Food Services, at
  • Accounts may be funded through our online payment system, located at MySchoolBucks charges $2.49 each time an account is funded.  Parents can view account history information on this Web site.
  • Accounts can also be funded by sending in cash or a check payable to “SASD Cafeteria Account”.  Please be sure to send in a separate check for each student with their name and student ID number on the memo portion of the check.  Please have your student give payments to the Food Service Manager at their school.

Thank you for your support of the Food Service program and cafeteria.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
