English Language Development (ELD)

What is ESL/ELD?
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program is now known as English Language Development (ELD) program. The goal of the ELD program is to develop the English language proficiency of English Learners (ELs) in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. This instruction is a component of the general curriculum and is designed to develop the English language skills necessary to communicate information, ideas and concepts for content areas.

What are ELD  program goals?
The goal of the program is to facilitate the development and attainment of English proficiency and academic achievement of students whose native or first language is not English.
